From September 2012, the Lee Westwood Golf School is to open its first International Golf School in Florida. With Lee’s recent commitment to the US PGA tour it seems fitting that the first non-UK school will be opened in America.
The new Senior High School programme will aim to replicate the success of the Lee Westwood Golf School programmes currently operating within the UK; utilising its existing culture, shaped from Lee’s attitude to the game and commitment to the school ethos, alongside a teaching philosophy that is aligned with Lee’s coach of 18 years, Peter Cowen.
The school will be based at Errol Estate Golf & Country Club in Apopka, Florida, who have dedicated a purpose built practice golf facility to ensure the students receive a high quality experience. The club has already commenced the work required to meet the training criteria, developing a new range, and short game practice facility. Education for the students will take place on-site, as will the accommodation with on-site villas providing a fantastic place to live.
Lee Westwood said “i’m delighted that Errol Estate Golf & Country Club have agreed to create a partnership with my golf school and in doing so will become the first Lee Westwood Golf School outside of the UK. The school is going from strength to strength and it is pleasing to see this continued growth, and the further positive impact we can impart on the younger generation”.
Patrick Daoust, President of Errol Estate Golf & Country Club says he is thrilled at the opportunity. “We are so excited to have been selected as the home of Lee Westwood Golf School, Florida and the forthcoming years will not only offer students a fantastic opportunity, but firmly put our course in Central Florida on the world stage. We look forward to providing the youth an opportunity to develop and learn the game of golf under the guidance of the already successful Lee Westwood Golf School philosophy.
The state of Florida is such a popular golfing destination, and we welcome students within the US and abroad, with great travel links through the international airport of Orlando which is only 30 minutes away from the resort.” Karl Morris, Lee Westwood Golf School Company Director commented "this is an incredibly exciting development for the School brand. We have now created a pathway where young golfers have the option of joining us from the age of 14 and can stay with us on a journey through to post tertiary education to learn and take their golf and education ambitions to another level.”
Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, the Director of ISM, Lee Westwood’s management company, said “I will be keeping a close eye on the school as I am always interested in the next batch of up-and-coming golfers”.
